TEHRAN -- Iranian director Mojtaba Raei said on Friday that for the first time in Iran, musicians will watch his film “Journey to Hidalo” beforehand in order to better perform the soundtrack.

“This is a very common task in the world cinema industry which has never been done in Iran before. The musicians are slated to see the film, and then they will perform their pieces based on their feelings about the film. The music will be scrutinized and it will be used as the basis for the main soundtrack after it is approved by me,” Raei told ISNA.

“The composer’s main job is to arrange the entire work in line with the structure and concepts of the film,” he explained.

Iranian musician Kambiz Roshanravan will compose the soundtrack of “Journey to Hidalo”, which is scheduled to be screened in the Spiritual Films section of the festival along with another Iranian film as well as 13 foreign movies. The film will also participate in the Iranian Films section.

“Three soloists will perform along with a string orchestra for the soundtrack. We will watch the film beforehand and exchange views. The group will be able to watch the film several times to become more familiar with the atmosphere of the film, and then the soundtrack will be recorded,” Roshanravan said.

The instruments setar and oud (both members of the lute family) and kamancheh (spike fiddle) have been selected for the performance of the soundtrack of the film, which has a religious and mystical theme, he added.

“I have never heard about such a method being used for composing a soundtrack in Iran. Due to the religious and mystical theme of the film, I thought it should have effective and strong music, which would be crystallized by direct interaction between the soloists and the film,” Roshanravan said in conclusion.
